PAT TESTING

British Health and safety law requires that all electrical appliances are safe. Guidance from the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) suggest intervals for inspection and testing. The interval ranging from 3 months to 4 years is dependent on both the type of appliance and the environment it is used in.
This extract from the Electricity At Work Act 1989 states:
'To meet the requirements of the 1989 "electricity at work regulations it is widely regarded to be necessary to implement a programmed of planned inspection and testing of portable appliances, As may be necessary to prevent danger all systems shall be maintained so as to prevent so far as is reasonably practicable such danger.'
